Claude AI Review: What Anthropic's AI Is Really Worth

My Claude AI review, in short: it is the best assistant I know for writing, reading long documents and coding, but its usage limits come quickly and it does not create images. I use it every day on client work. Here is what I do with it, its strengths, its weaknesses, the October 2026 models and plans, and who it is worth it for.

Claude AI review: my verdict in one minute

The best tool I know for anything involving text, long documents and code. It is my default assistant whenever I need to produce something serious, not just ask a question.

  • Writing well above average, including in French
  • Goes the distance on very long documents
  • Claude Code and tasks handled end to end
  • Usage limits hit quickly, especially on the free plan
  • Generates neither photos nor illustrations

Free, then Pro at $17 per month billed annually Best for: writing, document analysis, code

Key takeaways

  • Claude AI is Anthropic's conversational assistant; Anthropic is an American company founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees.
  • My rating: 8.5 out of 10. It excels at writing, long documents and code; it falls short on usage limits and the lack of image generation.
  • The October 2026 lineup: Haiku 4.5, Sonnet 5.5, Opus 5.5 and Fable 5.1, from fastest to most capable.
  • The free version gives access to Sonnet and Haiku, with a limit that resets every five hours. Pro costs $17 per month billed annually ($200 upfront) or $20 month to month.
  • Claude suits people who write, analyze and automate first. To produce visuals, you still need another tool.

What is Claude AI?

Claude AI is the conversational assistant made by Anthropic, an American artificial intelligence company founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees. It answers questions, writes, analyzes your documents and writes code, in English as well as in French, on the web, on mobile and in a desktop app.

Behind the interface sits a lineup of language models, from the fastest to the most capable. You write in natural language, it produces a reasoned answer. It is an assistant, not a search engine: it can search the web, but its real strength is working on what you give it, a contract, an export, a draft, a code repository.

The company's history, its founders and its investors are covered in Claude AI origins: country, founders and history. Here, I stick to the question that matters: does it deserve a place in your daily routine?

What I use Claude for in client work

I work with Claude every day, on real client projects. Here is what I actually hand over to it, outside of any demo.

  1. Preparing an audit. I upload an export of several thousand URLs and ask it for the problematic groupings. In a few minutes it does the sorting that used to take me two hours in a spreadsheet.
  2. Reworking existing content. I paste the article, the landing page and the questions customers ask, then ask what is missing. That is more useful than having it write from scratch.
  3. Writing custom programs. A script that checks my redirects, another that monitors a brand's mentions in AI answers. These are tools I would never have taken the time to build otherwise, and they are the core of my AI process automation work.
  4. Preparing for a meeting. I have it play devil's advocate before a meeting, using the client's real objections.

What these four uses have in common: I never ask it for a final piece I would publish as is. It handles the grunt work, I keep the decision and the signature.

Claude AI strengths

Writing quality, especially in French

This is where the gap is most visible. Claude produces text with rhythm, varies its sentence structures and avoids some of the writing tics you can spot a mile away in other assistants. French is the language I work in, and that is where I see the difference every day. It is still a machine, and unedited text always shows. But the starting point is better, so editing time is shorter.

In practice, that means fewer rounds of back-and-forth. On a briefing note, I usually go from a usable first draft to a publishable version in a single pass, as long as I give it material: your notes, your examples, the source document.

Long documents

Upload a 200-page PDF and ask what changed between two versions of a contract: Claude goes the distance. Where other tools lose the thread halfway through or invent a clause, it quotes the passages and says when the information is not in the document.

On paid plans, the most recent models accept up to one million tokens of context. Anthropic estimates that 200,000 tokens represent about 500 pages of text, so you can upload an entire documentation set without splitting it. For a small business, this is the use that pays off fastest: a request for proposals, a commercial lease or an audit report becomes a ten-minute conversation.

Code, and tasks handled end to end

Even if you are not a developer, this concerns you. Claude writes correct code, but above all it explains and fixes it. With Claude Code, included in every paid plan, it works directly in your files: it reads them, edits them and runs your tests. It is the tool I use to build my clients' automations, and I explain how to install Claude Code step by step.

The same logic is now arriving in the chat. Since September 2026, on Pro and Max, Claude Cowork is merged into the chat: you describe a report, a spreadsheet or a presentation to produce, and Claude decides whether to answer right away or turn it into a task it carries out on its own. I detailed this use in Claude Cowork: what it is for, pricing and review.

Context you can organize: projects, skills, connectors

  • Projects. You upload your reference files and instructions once, and every conversation in the project inherits them. The free version allows up to five.
  • Skills. Procedures you teach Claude once (a meeting-notes template, an in-house writing rule) and that it then applies without reminders.
  • Connectors. Google Drive, Microsoft 365, your business tools: Claude works on your real files rather than on pasted copies. They are built on the Model Context Protocol, the open standard published by Anthropic.
  • Memory. On by default for individual accounts, it remembers what you taught it from one conversation to the next. Everything is listed and editable in the settings.

Claude AI weaknesses

No tool deserves to have its flaws swept under the rug. Here are the five I run into most often.

  • Usage limits. Every plan has a usage limit that resets every five hours, and paid plans add a weekly limit. Heavy use on large documents runs into it, even on Pro.
  • No image generation. Claude creates neither photos nor illustrations. It can read an image, and build a diagram, a chart or an interactive visual in code, but for a campaign visual you need another tool.
  • Sometimes overly cautious. It occasionally refuses a legitimate request because it vaguely resembles a sensitive topic. Rephrasing with the context almost always solves the problem.
  • Mistakes are still possible. On a number, a date or a reference, it can be confidently wrong. Any figure that matters should be checked against the source.
  • The most capable model costs extra on Pro. Fable 5.1 is included in Max and in Team Premium seats; on Pro, it uses credits billed at API rates.

Before uploading a confidential document

On individual plans (Free, Pro, Max), the use of your conversations to train the models can be turned off in the settings. On Team and Enterprise, your content is not used for training by default. A client contract or a file containing personal data deserves this thirty-second check.

Claude models and plans in October 2026

The Claude lineup ranges from the fastest model to the most capable.

Anthropic refreshes its lineup several times a year, and many reviews online still discuss models that have since been replaced. Here is the state of play on October 7, 2026, taken from Anthropic's documentation and pricing page.

Haiku 4.5The fastest, for simple and repetitive tasksAll, including free
Sonnet 5.5 (September 2026)Everyday use: writing, documents, spreadsheets, simple codeAll, including free
Opus 5.5 (September 2026)Complex work: long reasoning, code, heavy analysisPro and above
Fable 5.1 (September 2026)The most capable, for long and demanding tasksMax and Premium seats; Pro with usage credits

To know which one to pick for your task, I put all four through the same test, on video (in French): see which Claude model to choose between Haiku, Sonnet, Opus and Fable.

A name you will come across but cannot buy

Claude Mythos 5.1 is the same model as Fable 5.1, with different safeguards. It is reserved for supervised access programs in cybersecurity and life sciences. There is no open sign-up.

On the subscription side, the price list fits in five rows, in US dollars excluding tax:

How to use Claude AI: get started in ten minutes

  1. Create an account on claude.ai with an email address or a Google account. You are asked for a mobile number to receive a verification code, and you must be 18 or older.
  2. Set your interface language in your profile menu, under Language. Claude answers in the language you write in anyway.
  3. Open the privacy settings and decide whether your conversations can be used for training, and whether memory stays on.
  4. Create a first project and upload three files that describe your business: a company overview, an offer, a sample of a document you produce.
  5. Ask a real question from your week, not a test. It is the only way to form a useful opinion.
  6. Install the desktop app and the mobile app if the trial is conclusive. Your account and conversations are synced everywhere.

After a week, look at how many times you hit the limit. More than once a week, and upgrading to Pro justifies itself. Allow an hour for this setup: it is by the end of the second week that the tool stops being a curiosity and becomes a reflex.

Claude AI or ChatGPT: my short take

Two frosted glass blocks facing each other, one lime and one mint, symbolizing the Claude vs ChatGPT comparison

It is the question that comes up in every training session I run. I pay for both, and I have no plans to drop either. For writing, long documents and code, I pick Claude. To produce images, ChatGPT is still needed, since Claude does not generate them. For research, both cite their sources properly.

At this level, benchmark gaps no longer say much: your main use is what decides. The use-by-use comparison, with a table and a verdict, is in Claude vs ChatGPT: which one to choose in 2026?

What users say about Claude AI

Beyond my own experience, I looked at what user feedback on app stores and in professional communities says. Three patterns stand out, and they match what I see in my training sessions.

  • Writing quality is a consensus. It is the most cited reason for satisfaction, including among users who came from ChatGPT.
  • Usage limits draw most of the criticism. Almost every negative comment mentions hitting the usage limit too quickly.
  • The model's caution divides people. Some see it as a sign of seriousness, others as an obstacle. My own assessment leans toward the former, but I understand the frustration.

A word on method: a Claude review written six months ago is not worth much anymore. Between July and September 2026, Anthropic released Opus 5, Fable 5.1, Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5. Always check the date and the models mentioned in the review you are reading, including this one.

Who Claude AI is worth it for

  • You write a lot (emails, notes, articles, proposals): this is its home turf, and the time savings show from the first week.
  • You work on long documents (contracts, reports, requests for proposals, exports): this is where it saves the most hours.
  • You want to automate without being a developer: Claude Code and delegated tasks change what a small business can build on its own.
  • You use it a few times a week: the free version is enough, no need to pay.
  • Your main need is images: Claude is not the right main tool. Keep it for the text that goes with your visuals.

Verdict: should you switch to Claude AI?

If your work revolves around writing, documents or automation, yes. Claude is currently the assistant that saves me the most time, and according to Anthropic, Opus 5.5 reaches Fable 5.1's level on most tasks at a much lower cost. If your main goal is producing visuals, pick another tool.

My advice for a small business: one week on the free version with real use, then a Pro subscription on one seat for a month, before expanding. Going straight to Team with ten seats before there is any real use is the best way to pay for a tool nobody opens. And plan half a day for onboarding: the subscription price is never the real cost, the time it takes to adopt the tool is.

Frequently asked questions

What is Claude AI?

Claude AI is the conversational assistant made by Anthropic, an American company founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees. It answers questions, writes, analyzes documents and writes code, in English as well as in French. It runs on the web, on iOS and Android, and in a desktop app for Mac and Windows.

Is Claude AI good in 2026?

I give it 8.5 out of 10. It is the best assistant I know for writing (French is my working language), analyzing long documents and coding, especially with Claude Code. Its two flaws: usage limits that are hit quickly, particularly on the free plan, and no image generation.

How do you use Claude AI?

Create an account on claude.ai with an email address or a Google account, then confirm the code you receive by text message. Set your interface language, upload your reference files to a project and ask a real question from your week. The desktop app and the mobile app use the same account.

Is Claude AI free?

Yes, there is a free version, with no credit card required. It gives access to the Sonnet and Haiku models, web search, file analysis and memory, with a usage limit that resets every five hours. The Pro plan costs $17 per month billed annually or $20 month to month.

Is Claude AI reliable?

For writing or analyzing a document you give it, it is very reliable and says when a piece of information is missing. Like any language model, it can still get a number, a date or a reference wrong. Check any figure that matters against the source before using it.

Is Claude AI better than ChatGPT?

For writing, long-document analysis and code, I prefer Claude. ChatGPT is still needed to generate images, which Claude does not do. Both are excellent: the choice depends on your main use, not on an absolute ranking.

Does Claude AI speak other languages, such as French?

Yes. The interface is available in French, among other languages, on the web and in the desktop app, and Claude answers in the language you write in. The quality of its writing in French is one of the reasons I use it every day.

Are my conversations used to train Claude?

On the individual Free, Pro and Max plans, the use of your conversations for training can be turned off in the privacy settings. On the Team and Enterprise plans, your content is not used for training by default. Check this setting before uploading a sensitive document.
